Colorful paper hearts with messages of positivity and love adorned the halls of Hicksville Middle School during the week of Valentine's Day. Teachers and staff were encouraged to take one, read the message, and return it for another person to enjoy. Special Education Teacher Tricia Lord and students in her Advisory period wrote the messages to help spread kindness throughout the building. Lord feels strongly about putting positive words out into the world. "We need to remember that 'sticks and stones' motto simply isn't true," says Lord. "Bones heal. Words can stay with you for a long time. We should make them loving."
