This is Lauren Hunker's fourth year working as a special education teacher at Dutch Lane School. Lauren teaches the self-contained special kindergarten class. She previously worked two years as a leave replacement for special education push-in and inclusion classes. Lauren serves as a member of the Dutch Lane Site-Based Team. She actively looks to incorporate service learning experiences into school life on a regular basis for all of Dutch Lane's students. Lauren has known about the Dancing Dreams program for children with cerebral palsy since its inception. Joann Ferrara worked with Lauren and her family since Lauren was a little girl. After Joann started this endeavor, Lauren and her mother Gail Hunker, a nurse at the Hicksville Middle School, regularly attended the annual recital of these remarkable children. Lauren determined that this was a worthy organization to bring to the attention of the Dutch Lane "family" because we have so many special needs students at our school. This fundraising endeavor has touched the hearts of Dutch Lane's students and staff alike. We would like to thank Lauren for inspiring us to support such a worthwhile cause which makes such a difference in the lives of children who are physically or medically challenged, yet have a dream to dance.
